Onne Customs advise port users on compliance

Anna Okon

The Customs Area Controller, Port Harcourt Area One Command, Onne, Bashir Abubakar, has advised port users about compliance, warning rebellious users of dire consequences while assuring the compliant ones of smooth processing of their imports and exports.

He said this during a media briefing about the activities of the command for the third quarter of the year.

‘’ While the command welcomes compliant traders, we have also shown a clear resolve to deal ruthlessly with importers and agents who manifest recalcitrance to obeying customs laws,” the Customs boss said.

On revenue generation, Abubakar said that the command met 63.85 per cent of its annual target and expressed hope that the command would surpass its N112.5bn revenue target for 2017.

According to him, the command collected a total of N71.8bn, adding that this was higher by N1.4bn than what was collected during the same period in 2016.

He disclosed that the command’s fight against anti-smuggling had been very successful, noting that the command made a total of 23 seizures with duty paid value of N446.3m.

He said the seizure of three more units of 20-foot containers carrying imported rice valued at N23.6m had helped to raise the command’s anti-smuggling profile.

‘’Between January and September this year, the command recorded export activities to the tune of N29.4bn.  We also recorded an increase in Nigeria Export Supervisory Scheme fees collected, being N150.3bn. These figures represent a 200 per cent increase in export activities as of the third quarter of 2017,” he added.
